Microsoft has released Internet Explorer version 9.
As with any newly released product,
please use with caution! Mozilla Firefox is still my preferred
browser, although I have not yet tried IE9.

Skimping on Security Software is a false economy!
A surprising number of
clients this year have elected not to renew their security
subscriptions, apparently to save money.
As quoted elsewhere in
this newsletter, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”!
If you have not renewed
your subscription yet, please call or email before you need that
“pound of cure” service call!

Security, Again!
|
|
I reported on security issues in the last edition. In
the past couple of weeks, I have encountered or heard about three
more cases. In two of the cases, the client knew exactly which
website they were on when the attack occurred. In one case, two email
accounts were compromised, one of them a business account.
I cannot stress enough that everyone should be very
careful when browsing ANY website, or using ANY social or
communications network. That includes Facebook, Twitter, My Space and
Skype. Always pay close attention to any windows or prompts which pop
up, or even voice warnings on Skype. Do not take everything at face
value! The perpetrators of Rogue Software and any kind of Malicious
Software do their utmost to appear like legitimate Microsoft prompts.
If in doubt, immediately shut down your PC and call your friendly PC
Tech! As
the old saying goes “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of
cure”!

Service Rates
|
|
I regret to advise that with the recent alarming
increases in both gasoline prices and auto insurance rates, I have no
alternative but to adjust service rates accordingly, especially those
at the lower end of the scale. Auto expenses are one of the most
significant overheads of any on-site service provider.
My most direct competitors do not offer highly
discounted rates for home users, seniors, home based businesses,
smaller offices, churches and other non-profit organizations, as I
have always done. More details to follow. If I have already recently
increased your rate, it will not increase again immediately.
